Guest Post by Matheus: World Cup Qualifying

Conmebol (South America’s soccer confederation) will host its last round of the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers on 10/10 and 10/11/17.  Brazil, already qualified and guaranteed the first spot on the South American qualifiers, will host Chile in Sao Paulo, while Argentina plays Ecuador in the altitude of Quito.

Many are wondering if Brazil has enough incentive to play hard or if the players will preserve themselves and in the process potentially watch arch-rival Argentina fail to qualify for the world’s most-watched sporting event.

Playing in Sao Paulo can be daunting even for Brazil as the largest city in the country has the most demanding fan base.  Another incentive to be competitive is to beat the reigning Copa America winner, Chile, and keep its undefeated streak while regaining the top spot in FIFA’s Ranking surpassing Germany.
The answer will be known tomorrow, 10/10, evening 7:30 EDT.
