ICYMI (In Case You Missed It): Sports Saturday

Toronto FC Won the MLS Cup: The nosedive of soccer in America continued as our domestic league shipped its trophy north of the border. Some of the most accomplished active American soccer players contributed to the title exodus as Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore star for Toronto Football Club. Quick note for MLS: The home team has won every MLS cup since you went to this format in 2012. Maybe go back to having your biggest match at neutral site so it can be competitive. Just a thought.

Army-Navy: Philadelphia played host to the 118th Army-Navy game and it was a doozy. West Point won for the second straight year after losing 14 straight games to its biggest rival, but it required a dramatic comeback from the Golden Knights. In a game where the tempo was dictated by weather, the Midshipmen played the better game amid buckets of snow, however Army prevailed 14-13 by virtue of a late score. Army had lost 14 straight coming into last year’s game but now finds itself in the pole position. For the first time since 1996 the Commander In Chief’s trophy returns to West Point. Also, I loved the uniforms in this one. GO ARMY, BEAT NAVY!!

Heisman: As foretold by everybody, Baker Mayfield won the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night. It was a relatively uneventful ceremony with no real surprises. It feels to me like this trophy has really fallen off. Maybe they need to restructure the award and admit that they are just going to give it to the most accomplished QB every year. They could change it to the Heisman-Tebow award and we could all just accept the fact that the winner will probably be a horrible pro.
